Stephen Dale

By Matt Prater  //  , ,  //  Comments Off on Stephen Dale

Stephen Dale is an Author & Speaker with an amazing story of survival! At the age of 21, Stephen fell 30 metres down a cliff. He suffered major head & spinal injuries, critical blood loss, five heart attacks and severe liver, kidney and abdominal organ damage. During his 8 month hospital stay he lost approximately 40kg, his five senses were compromised, and the head and nerve trauma led to compounding difficulties in communication, movement and excessive pain. Upon the discharge from his fourth hospital, Stephen was confronted with the painful reality of living with injury, fear, financial insecurity and long term unemployment. To add to his dilemma, his head injury took away his capacity to read, write or speak and simply to process information. Constant failure, embarrassment and disappointment in his attempts to overcome these obstacles brought confusion, self-doubt and anxiety. Stephen committed to a self-imposed rehabilitation program that took 10 years to complete. Despite overwhelming medical, physical and social setbacks, he fully regained his cognitive and communication skills.  He also rebuilt his physical strength, mobility and endurance. Stephen started Smiling Tiger in 2002, and has since taught and trained individuals and businesses throughout Australia how to overcome their professional and personal obstacles, manage their environment and achieve their goals, regardless of how powerful the obstacles may be. Listen in to his story, & how his faith strengthened him along the way! www.smilingtiger.com.au

Power of a Name [Godspot]

By Marc Gordon  //   //  Comments Off on Power of a Name [Godspot]

Nicky Gumbel from the Alpha Course shares a story about Barbara Clapham who came to live in London. At the age of 33, she decided she was going to look for a church. One Sunday she arrived at Holy Trinity Brompton. The young woman who was welcoming people at the door smiled at her and asked her name. Because of that smile Barbara came back the following week. When she walked in the next Sunday, the same person said, “Hello Barbara”. Because that person on the door remembered her name. She decided that she was going to come back every Sunday. That was 1947.

From then on Barbara came almost every Sunday until she died, soon after celebrating her 100th Birthday. She made a huge impact on the life of Holy Trinity Brompton, including running the finances of the church for years. I wonder if the young woman on the door had any idea on the impact she made by remembering Barbara’s name. There is great power in a name. Names are significant. This is true today, but it was even more true in the Hebrew culture that we read about in the Bible. A Hebrew name is no mere label. The name of the Lord reveals who he is. I wonder who’s name you can remember and how you can impact their life? You never know. You might just smile and impact someone, just like Barbara

Dancing With No Music [Godspot]

By Matt Prater  //   //  Comments Off on Dancing With No Music [Godspot]

Max Lucado tells the story about the man who wanted to learn to dance. He bought a book about dancing and went home and started to research it. Once he thought he’d finally got the knack, he asked his wife into the lounge room to show her what he’d learnt. He followed the instructions clearly in the book. Lean with your right shoulder. Step with your right foot. Slowly turn to the left. He moved around like a robot and said to his wife, “What do you think?” She said, “Ah, that’s great honey, but where’s the music?” “Music? I never though about music. I was just following what it said in the book.” “Lets do it again and put some music on”, she said. “This time, don’t just worry about the steps, just follow the music”, and next thing you know he was dancing like never before.

You know as Christians, we can follow the book while ignoring the music. We can master the doctrine, the bible verses, the outline, the chapters. We can follow the rules and the law and stiffly step onto the dance floor without any music in our hearts. We can measure each step and follow the rules. But, we can be exhausted at the end of every day trying to dance according to the book. Dancing with no music is tough stuff. Hebrews 4:12 says:

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword.”

Let’s not just read the scriptures and try and follow it all with our heads, let’s let the music of God’s Spirit come into our hearts and dance to the music of the rhythm of heaven. Christianity is about a relationship with God, not just a bunch of rules and laws. Maybe it’s time for you to start dancing today.

Clark Taylor – Part 2

By Matt Prater  //  ,  //  Comments Off on Clark Taylor – Part 2

Clark Taylor was raised in the Aussie outback. He grew up as a real ‘Aussie Bloke’ – fighting in the pubs & working hard, rounding up wild cattle & branding them, living under the stars & eating damper. In 1959 Clark attended a Billy Graham crusade & it was there he powerfully encountered God. His entire life changed. Giving up his dream of owning cattle properties, and leaving the land he loved, Clark went through six years of theological college where he met his wife Anne. They fell in love and married. As the founders of both Christian Outreach Centre and WorshipCentre, Clark and Anne have now been ministering for over 50 years. Listen in to this 2 part series, with guest interviewer Greg Newman.
