Sam Humphrey is a New Zealand born actor who’s best know for playing General Tom Thumb in the film The Greatest Showman. He’s also been featured on the TV show Neighbours. He was born with a rare genetic disorder. A common form of dwarfism. As a child he was also diagnosed with the inflammatory bowel condition Crohn’s disease and spent a lot of time visiting hospitals and doctors. He attempted suicide several times, but with the support of his family, his faith and his resilience, he was able to overcome his challenges and pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He said that as a teenager his self-confidence and self-esteem was plummeting and he was bullied as a teenager. He said that because he had God in his life he was given that snap transformation from depression into becoming an overcomer in Christ. You know the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” No matter what we’re going through in life, no matter how bad the circumstances are, lets not look to the circumstances, let us look to the one who can save us in the midst of our circumstances. Sam Humphrey has now been a youth leader and he’s now sharing a message of hope all over the world. Because of the platform God gave him through the film “The Greatest Showman”. You know the Bible tells us that God can bring beauty out of ashes. No matter what you’re going through today, just remember, God has a plan and a purpose for your life.
Eddie Woo is the high school maths teacher and internet sensation who won the Australia Day Local Hero Award in 2018. After one student couldn’t make it to class, he decided to film his maths classes and put them on YouTube. Now he’s reached millions of people all around the world with his Wootube channel. When he was in grade 9 at school, he began to fully trust Christ. He noticed some Christians at school who had a genuine faith. He said their faith changed their character and the decisions they made day-to-day. And for many of them it changed the whole trajectory of their lives, which was a revelation. And he had some great Christian teachers at the public school he was at, who showed him a glimpse of how people can live out their faith in a secular context, by demonstrating their faith in a way that makes a difference in people’s lives. Eddie Woo is a great example of a believer who’s living out his faith in everyday life. Using the platform that God has given him to teach about Maths, but also to teach about the designer of all mathematics.
Eddie Woo is the high school maths teacher and internet sensation who won the Australia Day Local Hero award in 2018. After one student couldn’t make it to class, he decided to film his maths classes and put them on YouTube. Now he’s reached millions of people all around the world with his Wootube channel. He says he’s not a teacher who’s a Christian, he a Christian who’s a teacher. He said my understanding of the reason people are given the gifts they have is to server those around them, both in the Christian context and in the world today. he says that you only have to scratch a little beneath the surface of any subject to find the design of God in it. But with mathematics, it’s so obvious. We talk about the fact that the universe is designed in this way and you can find all of these patterns. Do you thing that’s a coincidence? One of the things he loves to point out is that we call the universe the Cosmos. Which means ordered and structured and designed as opposed to Chaos. And the reason that we find these mathematical principals, is because there was a designer. We didn’t just spring into being. It has immense beauty. Why on earth should the equations of earth be beautiful? The answer is because we have a beautiful designer, who designs things beautifully.
One of the most popular Christian songs ever is “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe. The song was written by Bart Millard after a tough time in life. In the movie of the same name, “I Can Only Imagine”, it tells the story of how Bart was abused as a young man. His mother abandoned him and his father beat him up regularly. After graduating from high school, he left and ended up joining a Christian band, MercyMe. After a few years on the road, he really struggled to connect with audiences and was challenged to really search his heart as to why he wasn’t connecting. After travelling home to visit his father, he realized that his father had changed. His father had started reading the Bible and praying, and really was transformed. Bart had to find it in his heart to forgive his father. Bart Millard had a father wound that needed to be healed. He then found out that his father had a terminal illness, and was able to spend the last days of his father’s life caring for him. And it was out of that time of healing and restoration that he ended up writing the song “I Can Only Imagine”. What a great story of redemption and tranformation for Bart’s family, knowing that his father would be in heaven forever, with a new body. Walking by the side of his Saviour. That’s how the song “I Can Only Imagine” came about.
Daniel Hagen is an Aussie Pastor & Singer/Songwriter on a mission to see 100,000 souls saved in 2018! Daniel used to be the lead singer of Aussie band, “The Hollow”. After he became a born-again Christian, his songs began to take on themes reflecting his faith. Although at the time, The Hollow had been signed up to a six-figure recording deal, he was told by one of the recording label’s managers that, “This industry is full of drug dealers and pimps”, and, “…you need to stop talking about Jesus and stop singing about Jesus if you want any more money invested into the band”. After this, Hagen left The Hollow, and began songwriting and performing worship music in churches and Christian events in Australia and other countries. Daniel has also performed at the Awakening Europe event, televised by GOD TV across Scandinavia, alongside UK artist and former Delirious? frontman Martin Smith.
