In April 2014, two grandmothers from the Netherlands went on their first ever aeroplane flight. Anne, aged 71 and Ria aged 78 had never been able to fly before. Both of them had a deep-seated fear of flying. One of them said “If I don’t do this now, I never will.” Sometimes opportunities come up in life that you just have to take. After the flight one of the ladies said “It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. It’s just like a dream come true.” Many of us miss out on opportunities because of our fears. They say that about 95% of our fears are actually unfounded. I love what author Mark Twain says “20 years from now, you’ll be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do then by the ones you did do.” So throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in the sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. Don’t let your fears cripple you and hold you back in life. Instead live by faith. The Bible says “The righteous are as bold as a lion”. Maybe it’s time you took that flight today.
